A New House, A New Printer and An Old Kitty | The More Things Change…

A New House, A New Printer and An Old Kitty | The More Things Change…

Jan 24, 2012

When I’m feeling all overwhelmed and basically loser-like, I have to remind myself that we only moved three months ago. Prior to this, it had been over seven years since we made an interstate move. Moves are like childbirth; there’s something that happens in your mind immediately after the event that makes you forget exactly how painful the process was.

Never mind that we moved at the beginning of the holiday season(s)–Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s–all of these where we hosted guests. Never mind that, in toto, I have been sick about six weeks over the past few months. Never mind that in between researching preschools and extra curricular activities and unpacking, we had to fit time to work in there somewhere.

So, here we are, three months in and most things seem to be in order when you walk into the house, but I know the truth. Boxes are shoved into closets and the garage only has a single walkway. To the unexperienced eye, it looks like we have things in order, but I know the truth.

Up until this past weekend, my office at the front of the house was the extra-sleep-room-and-shove-things-in-here-that-we-don’t-want-people-to-see room. I was working all over the house, wherever I could find room–the dining room, the kitchen table, the kitchen counter, the bed, the bathroom (heh heh, just kidding about the bathroom part). So I tackled the office this past weekend and, when I was all finished and things were all in order, I felt a stress lift from my shoulders. I stood in the middle of the room and smiled (and yelled at anyone who tried to come in).

Last night, I hooked up my printer. It had been so annoying to shoot files to my husband each time I needed something printed. So, I was super excited … but, it seems, not as excited as Ninja Cocaine Kitty, who came tearing around the corner when he heard the clicking and whirring of the printer, excited that he could, once again, attempt to stick his little Ninja paw into the machine for each and every page that I print.

Ahhh. It’s good to finally be home.
