Help Spread Joy to 300 Kids for Christmas (It’s Easy!)

| October 28, 2011 | 5 Comments

Imagine you’re a kid and you celebrate Christmas. Stores are playing non-stop Christmas music, holiday parties are in full swing and you are excited to see Santa and tell him your number one toy request. You wake up Christmas morning, run to the tree and find … nothing.

Unfortunately this is a real scenario that will play out this holiday season for many kids. However, you have the chance to help some–300 to be exact.

The Spreading Joy Corporation, a registered U.S. charity, has started their annual Christmas Joy drive to help kids.

“I know, it’s not time yet, but with so much to do, I have to start now,” stated founder Marie Wikle.

She is asking individuals, businesses, churches, groups and corporations to pool resources and assist Spreading Joy in providing these kids with Christmas gifts, hopefully four to five gifts each.

“Around one third of these kids will not receive a gift other than what we give them,” Wikle added.

So, how can you help Christmas Joy 2011? It’s easy! There are many ways to help, just pick one (or four) and go with it!

1. Make a monetary donation of any amount to Spreading Joy.

2. Donate supplies like wrapping paper, tape, scissors, name tags, huge black trash bags (to carry gifts home in) and some gift bags (standard medium size). This will allow Spreading Joy to use more of the funds for gifts.

3. Donate toys, particularly those between $15 to $20.

4. Donate gift cards, $10 in value to Walmart or McDonald’s.

5.Volunteer. Spreading Joy needs individuals in North Carolina to donate time to help with the project.

All of your donations are tax deductible as allowed by the law.

  1. I think this is fabulous and I intend to donate…I would like to see (and oh no here we go with a “politically correct” that it is giving for the HOLIDAYS…Christmas AND Chanukah fall together this year…living in Michigan there are 1000s of families of ALL FAITHS who have been hit by the economy…HARD…not just those who celebrate Christmas but EVERYONE. In my opinion we should all be giving all year, not just at the holidays. I have been out of work since 2007 and my husband is retired…times are TOUGH but I still donate all over the place, it’s karma.
But…just for the record, many are under the impression that Jews have money…well guess what? I’m Jewish and we don’t have money and many Jewish families are suffering through hard times too…..I don’t like acting thin-skinned but this time of year has been hard for me since I was a child…it isn’t just about Christmas…it’s about ANY CHILD who is in need. Thanks for understanding.

  2. Caren-
You are RIGHT ON THE MONEY with your input. Thank you for the reminder. I think it is “natural” to use the terminology of your own faith/beliefs, but you’re right–people need help no matter their beliefs, religious affiliations, color and on and on.

Also, I fully believe in your giving year ’round not just at the holidays vision. It is hard for us to imagine families without food or gifts at the holidays, but what about the other 11months? That is probably when they are in most need.

One thing I like about Spreading Joy is that they have year ’round drives/donations for kids.

Thanks for your input. Good stuff.

Caren – thank you – for anything you can do. We do help with back to school, basic computer training for the ladies of shelters and go to schools and women’s groups to encourage, motivate and inspire.

We also think that just because we can’t give thousands of dollars…that it shouldn’t stop us from trying. I’m with you on the “don’t have a lot of money” thing, but partnering with many people, we can do a lot with a little. – strength in numbers. :)

Jackie!! thank YOU for your huge heart and tremendous help!! You’ve always had a heart for others (and sock monkeys) and i’m truly honored that you’d reach out for us again!!

    big {{HUGS}} for you both

    Marie

  4. I have been a contributor to Spreading Joy and delight in giving to this worthy cause. Every amount makes a difference…from a $5.00 donation to a $500.00 donation, each one results in making Christmas a JOY for children in need. Today is Friday, payday, and God placed it on my heart how much JOY to give. Thanks for writing this post.
