Party Postcards Craft | Favor Idea for Staying in Touch
We are moving. We also have a 3 year old. If you don’t know anything about preschoolers, they generally don’t transition well. However, my little one attaches to everyone and everything and has an especially hard time with transitions. So, I’ve been stressing over how to make her move to another state as gentle as possible. It’s hard enough for a 3 year old to understand the time and space of moving to a different state, let alone the fact that she isn’t going to be able to see any of her little friends whenever she wants.
During the going away party for her, we made up little fun packs for all the people at the party. I included in each of the packs three pre-addressed and pre-postaged postcards so that the guests could write to Ella at her new house. It was easy, relatively low cost and will bring her a great deal of joy when she receives periodic mail from her friends.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 pack of printable postcards–MATTE–not glossy (you can find these at any office supply store or even general stores in their printer sections)
Stamps
Colored paper
Colored paper clips or ribbon
Printer
Here’s what to do:
1. Follow the instructions with the pack of postcards and print out the name and address of the postcard recipient. Tip: You can print a bordered area on the back for the space for people to write their notes if you want to get fancy.
2. Affix a stamp to each postcard.
3. Leave the front of the postcard blank so that the person sending the postcard can decorate it. (This is why you need matte cards. People won’t be able to decorate glossy-front cards.)
4. On a separate piece of colored paper, print out instructions on what to do with the cards. Include something like: “Help [name] feel welcomed in her new home! Please decorate the front of the postcard, write a special note to her and the drop it into the mail. The postage is already paid! ”
5. Put as many in a pack that you want to give to each person (we gave three), and clip together with paper clip or tie together with a pretty ribbon.
Party postcards are a great “favor” for a party for adults or kids. Also, it doesn’t have to be just for moving parties. This is a cute idea for baby showers to send notes once the new baby arrives, for graduations and kids going away to college, or even for newlyweds to have special mail when they get back from their honeymoon.
