An open letter to job and marketing companies
Dear Job and Marketing Companies:
I live in a very small town of–let’s say–around 4,000 people. It’s the kind of place where you know what your neighbor had for dinner and you hear through the grapevine who got in trouble at school. That’s why you lose all credibility when you send me emails with subject lines like,
Make your resume stand out in [Small Town USA]!
(Trust me, everyone already knows it…and my Social Security Number…and what I bought at the grocery store last Tuesday.)
or
We found new jobs for you in [Small Town USA]!
(I don’t think so. Last time I checked, neither the Dairy Queen nor Dollar Store were hiring.)
My point to all of you is this: You may want to reconsider your auto-fill subject lines so that they are applicable to all because, honestly, a subject line that says, “Look who’s hiring in NULL, NULL” means nothing…to anyone…especially not someone living in a 4,000-person town.
Love,
Jackie

It’s almost like they are the unmarketing company.
HAHAHA! Their new slogan can be “let us unhire you.”
