Hero Kids Are Role Models for All of Us

Hero Kids Are Role Models for All of Us

Jul 27, 2010

Sometimes, it takes a kid’s perspective to make you realize that you need to do better in this world.

One such perspective came from 11 year old MaryMargaret who, along with her father Gabe, created Kids Are Heroes–a website dedicated to bringing together children who can make a difference.

“I  created this site (with some help from my dad) because we thought that this will help people to help others and cute animals too!! We get to meet all kinds of great kids that are doing wonderful things and inspiring more kids to get involved,” MaryMargaret writes on the site.

Started in March 2008, the website is “designed to inspire your children to become involved in the act of giving by learning from other kid heroes who are doing amazing things.”

It only takes a few minutes on the website to realize just how much kids are doing to make the world a better place.

For example, Alexandra was the first child in her New Jersey community to start speaking out against bullying. Or take Andrew Castle, who was 9 years old when he started his “Hats for Hunger” campaign in 2008. Carter and Olivia started their own non-profit organization called  “One More Generation” to help endangered species.

And, the list goes on and on.

The family-friendly website gives kids ideas on how to get started helping others under the Become a Hero section.

If you know a kid who is already doing heroic things, be sure to visit the Nominate a Kid page.

The site also has cool kids’ areas with games, and a KAH Cafe where kids can interact via discussion boards.

The organization hosts an annual “Kids Are Heroes Day” where they honor hero kids and their efforts.

Kids Are Heroes is a 503(c)(3) non-profit organization.
